July Prayer Alert from CEO Allen Speer

Dear Agape Flights Prayer Force,

“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Luke 10:2, ESV).

In a recent sermon, my Pastor said these words, “It’s not what God gives to you, but what God gives through you that really matters.”

I spent the last week of June in Cuba representing Agape Flights and encouraging the Church of Jesus Christ to remain strong and steadfast. To remind them they are not alone, that we are with them, and God loves them. I encouraged them to rejoice in their sufferings, knowing that they will be rewarded one day in Heaven.

This was the first of eight flights into Cuba granted to us by the Commerce Department of the United States and it was a tremendous success! We were able to deliver 17 Water filtration systems and two thousand pounds of non-perishable food and medical equipment.

During my trip I met a young man named Jorge (pronounced HOR-hay). He is a twenty-one-year-old aspiring basketball player with dreams of playing professionally. God orchestrated an opportunity for us to meet and talk about our favorite NBA Basketball player, Steph Curry. Jorge told me that he admired Steph so much, that like Steph, he had the words, “I CAN DO ALL THINGS” tattooed on his leg. He didn’t understand the tattoo was a reference to Philippians 4:13.

A few weeks prior to this trip, I purchased a pair of Under Armor Steph Curry tennis shoes at an outlet store and wore them on my flight into Cuba. As we spoke, I felt compelled to ask Jorge to try on my shoes. They were a perfect fit, and in that moment, God said, “Give this young man your shoes and share the gospel!”
