True Spirit of Christmas is Alive in Haiti

The Visit of the Wise Men

“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he who has been born king of the Jews?  For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” Matthew 2:1-2   (ESV)

As I contemplate Christmas and all this season holds, I am captured by the true Christmas Story. It is relatively easy in the United States to become wrapped up in all of the trappings of the holiday and neglect the Holy Day.

As I reread this story, I am impressed with the wise men because they had a goal. They knew why they were going, they knew how to get it — by following the star — and they persisted until they finally arrived at their destination.

The message of Christmas is this: God communicates in our language. For the Magi, He put a star in the heavens. For the shepherds, He sent angels. God spoke to us by bringing His Son in the flesh, what we call incarnation.

december reciept (1 of 1)Agape Flights’ missionary partners are amazing! I have just returned from spending several days with many of our missionaries in Haiti. Jim DeLa, Agape’s communications officer, accompanied me as we interviewed and encouraged these wonderful servants and saw with our own eyes the work being accomplished in the name of Jesus Christ! So much like the wise men, our missionary affiliates are people of vision and dreams, people of great persistence, passion, commitment and steadfastness.

december reciept (3 of 4)Missionaries inspire me, they motivate me, they move me and they encourage me. They confirm in me that the work that God has called Agape Flights to do is critical to the work God has called our beloved missionaries to accomplish.

On behalf of the missionaries we serve, the Board of Directors, our staff and the many volunteers that assist us, I wish for you a blessed Christmas and pray that the presence of Christ might fill your hearts to overflowing.

Thank you for praying for us and thank you for financially supporting this ministry, I appreciate you,

A video thank-you from Cap Haitien

Nikki and Nick Stolberg, missionaries with Children of the Promise in Cap Haitien, Haiti, had a wonderful Facebook post Wednesday morning, a video of their son unpacking a box of Thanksgiving goodies, one of more than 200 dinners provided by generous donors and carried by Agape Flights to missionary families in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. Your donations made it all possible.  Follow this link to view the video. Enjoy:

Thanksgiving dinners ready to fly

Packingboxes-3Volunteers from Palma Sola Presbyterian Church in Bradenton came to Agape Flights Friday, Oct. 25, to put together about 240 “Thanksgiving in a Box” packages for our missionary families in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. What a blessing!

The food will be arriving in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas in flights over the next few weeks.

An $80 gift pays for the food and about half the cost of transportation. Can you help? Go to our donation page and set a holiday table for a missionary family.

Several news media outlets showed up to share the news. You can see the coverage:

The impact of our missionaries is overwhelming

At the beginning of every month one of my many joys serving as the CEO of Agape Flights is the privilege to communicate to those of you who faithfully and consistently support the ministry of Agape Flights.

The reason it is a joy and brings great joy is because of the wonderful missionaries we are privileged to serve. The impact they are making for the Kingdom of God is overwhelming. Just the other day, our director of development received this email from Hannah Sterling, who is serving with Hope for Life Children’s Home.  Here is what Hannah said:

IMG_7917Hi Carole!

I’ve been anticipating this day for weeks! Today, October 1st, marks Day One of the breakfast program at Hope For Life Children’s Home thanks to Agape Flights! What a blessing to see bellies being filled this morning with a nutritious breakfast. Yes, I know spaghetti for breakfast is a little weird but it’s the Haitian way! Other breakfast days will include oatmeal, fruit, and bread with peanut butter, a cornmeal dish resembling grits, and even chocolate milk!

Thank you does not really say all that we feel, but from the bottom of our hearts — THANK YOU!

Many blessings,

Hannah Sterling
Hope For Life Children’s Home

IMG_7920Hope For Life Children’s Home recently received one of the grants awarded through Agape Flights. The Haiti Earthquake Relief Grants were available because of the generosity and concern of partners just like you. I am overwhelmed daily by the faithfulness of God. He uses ordinary people just like me and you to impact countries with the message of the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.

On behalf of the board of directors, our Agape Flights staff and volunteers, and the many missionaries like Hannah Sterling, thank you. Thank you for your faithfulness and generosity and thank you for consistently partnering with us as we serve Christ by serving His missionaries. I am,

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3: 16-17.

Dear Friends of Agape:

Thank you for sharing and partnering with us through this ministry. Thank you for your dependability, your responsibility and your accountability with us. I am personally grateful and thankful for each and every donor and your investment into this Kingdom ministry.

As we move into fall, we have much to be thankful for. The Lord is blessing Agape Flights and our missionary partners in a number of exciting ways:

Building continues thanks to grants from Agape’s Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.

Help for Port-au-Prince: More than $50,000 in grants, the last of the $750,000 from Agape’s Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund, will soon be awarded to several of our missionary partners in Port-au-Prince meeting long-term needs of people still reeling from the effects of the 2010 earthquake.

Intern welcomed: Agape is blessed with the arrival of Taylor Nageli, the son of missionaries Buck and Joanne Nageli. Taylor is serving an eight-week internship with us in Venice, Fla., after earning a degree in Missionary Aviation Technology from Moody Bible Institute’s facility in Spokane, Wash. He’s learning the ropes of aviation ministry and is a welcome addition to the Agape family.

A time for renewal: September is also the time of year when our missionary partners renew their memberships for the upcoming fiscal year. It’s an inspiring reminder of just how much God is accomplishing throughout the Caribbean.

Spreading holiday cheer: Every year at this time we begin asking for your help in providing the Agape Flights Missionary Affiliates family with a Thanksgiving meal along with the trimmings. An $80 gift helps us show a missionary family how much we appreciate what they do.

Help for medical missions: Our partnership with Caring Partners International and Boca Grande United Methodist Church is providing much-needed supplies to our medical missions. As this is being written, wish lists from our missionaries are being fulfilled and will soon be airlifted to our missions in the field.

Preparing the budget: The Agape Flights staff is preparing the ministry’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year. It is a time when we prayerfully seek the will of Christ as we serve Him by serving his missionaries.

There would not be a budget without you, the donors who help make this ministry possible. We give thanks each day for you and ask that you will continue to support the mission of Agape Flights, with your prayers and your generous financial donations.

We pledge to be good and faithful stewards of the gifts given to us in order that the vision of Agape Flights can be sustained for years to come.

Called to serve,

Allen T. Speer, CEO of Agape Flights
