Agape Flights -
Missionaries Serving Missionaries
Agape Flights is experiencing exciting growth
and expansion in demand for ministry services to the missionary
communities in
Haiti
and the
Dominican Republic
. Since May 4th 2001, when Agape deployed its Cessna
Grand Caravan into ministry service we have been challenged by
both missionary and supporter alike to provide additional
services and to reach new missionary communities.
Already we have expanded into the Dominican
Republic, added short term ministry team opportunities to the
Bahamas, Central America, and of course to Haiti and the
Dominican Republic. The challenge to reach the world with the
message of Hope in Jesus weighs heavy on all of us.
In this new year alone we have visited the
missionary community on the south coast of
Haiti
in the city of
Les Cayes
. Effectively cut off from the outside world in this remote area,
the missionary community struggles on. Shortly, as arrangements
are made and government permission received, Agape will initiate
support services to the mission folks serving there.
Additionally, Agape received
Government certifications and approvals to use La Isabella, the
new, recently opened airport in
Santo Domingo
,
Dominican Republic
. Our first flight is scheduled for April 5th.
Finally, Agape’s short term team ministry
is expanding with recent trips to
Tegucigalpa
,
Honduras
,
Santiago
,
Dominican Republic
and an upcoming trip to the
Eleuthera
Bible
Training
Center
in the
Bahamas
.
In addition to the suite of logistic support services
Agape already provides, the missionaries have asked us to help
in many new areas. For example:
- Agape
has implemented a state of the art banking system
that automates check processing and provides new ways for
missionaries to receive donations while maintaining the
highest levels of accountability.
- Agape
is ready to schedule mission training and personal
development seminars targeting specific subject areas to
help the missionaries in all areas of their ministries.
Topics include “Accounting for the Field Missionary,”
“Raising Personal and Program Support,” “Using 21st
Century Communication Tools to Proclaim the Hope of the
Gospel.”
- Missionaries
have asked for Agape to partner in several mission projects.
Many of you may remember that Agape provided partnership
opportunities eight to ten years ago. Through those
partnerships a large open air chapel and conference center
was built, a church and school that now serves 750 children
constructed, and a conference and training center completed.
The
challenge is great. Then he
said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask
the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his
harvest field.” Matt. 9. 37-38
What about you? Are you being called to the
harvest field? Our staff needs are extensive from

The
Volunteer Coordinator position is really exciting… It is a
true “pastoral” position. Of course it includes the regular
scheduling of our volunteer force which numbers approximately
45-75 depending on the time of year. These are folks committed
to a day, a time and a job every week. Additionally there are
another 100+ that join us from time to time for specific
assignments and events as they arise.
We hope to expand our volunteer ministry in the following ways:
-
By coordinating with our short term team ministry program and
using short term teams from out of the area: These groups of
2-10 will work with Agape ˝ day maybe three days and with local
churches the rest of the time to round out a week-long schedule.
Additionally, the groups will be plugged into local church
activities and have a “tourist” day.
-
Providing
once a month small group socials for our volunteers and staff.
-
Ministering
through volunteer outreach to local church groups:
Currently
small work groups from local churches join us for a few hours on
a Saturday or early evening to complete a specific ministry task
like cleaning the hangar, washing the plane, sorting relief
supplies. Coordinating the activity/project and the team and
providing oversight and personal connection to Agape is critical
to the impact of the group’s participation. The volunteer
coordinator is responsible for oversight and managing this
effort with the help of our team coordinator.
Ministering to Missionaries:
We hope to include missionaries and their families in our
personal ministry outreach. This goal needs refining,
development and implementation. We hope to coordinate this
outreach through our field coordinators and prayer team leaders
but oversight would be provided by our volunteer coordinator. As
we see the situation today.
We
currently sponsor events in both
Haiti
and the
Dominican Republic
for the 300+/- missionary families we serve. The events are
wrapped around a picnic and praise and worship. Churches here
sponsor the events and send a ministry team. The volunteer
coordinator will schedule and manage these events in country.
Event
Planner: Working with the Public Relations team
and the Development team the Event Planner will manage and
coordinate Agape’s local field events. Currently Agape
sponsors Point of Entry breakfasts and luncheons for folks
unfamiliar with Agape’s ministry, our annual Volunteer
Appreciation event, our annual Signature Event, and two smaller
fund raising events per year. Additionally our field events
include annual renewal conferences in
Haiti
and the Dominican Republic.
