Agape Flights - King Air - Progress Report

Wednesday April 1st   Agape’s recently refurbished King Air 90 experiences engine trouble while en route to Haiti and the Dominican Republic . Pilots Jeff Yannucciello and Steve Koch are forced to land in North Eleuthera, Bahamas . Friend and local missionary, Dave Spangler, lends his Piper Astec to Agape to continue their flight.

Tuesday, April 28th   Missionary Flights International donates the use of their DC-3 to help Agape transport the rental engine, tools, parts and mechanics Harvey Johnson and Rev. Chad Chadbourne to North Eleuthera to begin the engine swap.

Friday, May 1st   The engine swap is completed and the King Air returns to Venice , Florida for a complete inspection.

April 1st through May 13th   Relief flights continue uninterrupted using a rented Cessna 401 thanks to Bruce Case of King’s Wings Aviation.

Tuesday, May 5th   Agape’s failed engine is shipped to Covington Aircraft for evaluation. Will Agape repair or replace the engine?”

Wednesday, May 13th   The King Air resumes weekly fights using a rented engine. The Cessna 401 is returned to King’s Wings.

Thursday, May 21st   We get the news! The cost to repair is far greater than the value of the engine. The search begins for a replacement.

Tuesday, June 2nd   An engine is located, price negotiated ($140,000), and purchase agreements signed.

Tuesday, June 24th  The King Air 90 replacement engine installation is complete. Agape’s King Air returns to service with our replacement engine. Can you help finish the task???

Thank You for your support and encouragement. We covet your prayers and letters of encouragement. We’re not done and need you additional help. There’s $80,000 left to go toward the engine purchase. Let’s not leave this remaining left undone.  Can you help?

Joining you in His service,

Friday, May 8, 2009 - The King Air 90 is Home!

Harvey Johnson and Rev. Mervin Chadbourne spent four days, (April 28- May 1st), making the turbine engine swap on our King Air 90. The original engine lost power over Eleuthera, an island in the Bahamas .

Harvey is disconnecting all the cables, bolts, tubes, and wires so the engine can be removed.

This is what our plane looks like without an engine and propeller

Pastor Chad helping install the rental engine.

The Current Gospel Chapel is a blessing to the island. Thank you Pastor Dave and Sharon Spangler of Baptist Mission to Forgotten People. Your help and wonderful hospitality overwhelmed us during our time of need.

The plane returned to Venice on Friday May 1st, exactly one month following the loss of power on the engine.

May 5, 2009

The original engine leaves today headed for Covington Aircraft in Oklahoma . There it will be evaluated for either overhaul or destruction. Please continue to pray with us knowing God’s hand will get us through this. We have 90 days to overhaul or replace our engine before the rental is returned.

Please share our Agape story with your friends and your church; call them to prayer and ask for help on our behalf and the many missionary families we serve.

  Thank you!!!

We have raised $30,000 toward the $150,000 engine overhaul/replacement cost.
Thank you for your continued support!

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 - Harvey Johnson and Rev. Chadbourne head to the North Eleuthera Airport (MYEH), to begin work on the engine replacement.

Harvey and Chad depart with a rented engine, tools, spare parts, snorkels and fins (not really) on a DC-3 loaded with additional supplies for Haiti and the Dominican Republic .

Kings Wings, a flight ministry located on the east coast of Florida has rented their Cessna 401 to us while repairs are made to our King Air 90. This will enable us to continue weekly flights while our engine is being evaluated.

Here’s the status:

  • The engine swap starts April 28th
  • Covington Aircraft in Okmulgee , Oklahoma will evaluate our engine for overhaul
  • Option #1: Overhaul our engine
  • Option #2: Purchase a recently overhauled engine

  • Projected costs: $150,000 for either option #1 or #2

  • We have received approximately $20,000 toward the overhaul/replacement

We continue to make our weekly flights and expect additional positive reports to follow. Please pray with us in great confidence and thanksgiving for God’s provision made possible through the hands and the hearts of so many folks.

Thank you for all your support and encouragement. We covet your prayers and any additional help you might consider.

An update for the followers of Agape's recent mechanical failure in north Eleuthera, Bahamas:

  • This week, two planes were flown to the Caribbean to deliver mail and supplies to the missionaries. The flights were made by volunteers pilots that have helped Agape in the past.

  • A volunteer pilot is scheduled to fly another shipment of mail and supplies next week.

Monday, April 6, 2009 - 1:30 pm

  • Thanks to Jim Lewis for safely flying Jeff and Steve back to Venice, FL on Friday!

  • The King Air 90 remains sitting in the Bahamas. Agape's primary goal will be to raise funds to purchase an engine replacement.

  • Until we purchase a replacement engine, our flights will be limited by the availability of rented or donated planes.

  • We will keep our commitment to remain debt free by relying on God’s people for the resources and donations needed to carry out our mission.

  • On Wednesday Dave, Jeff and Steve took half the cargo load and dropped it off in Cap Haitien and Port-au-Prince, Haiti. They traveled back to north Eleuthera to pick up the second load and delivered it early today.

  • Agape is coordinating a volunteer pilot to pick up Jeff and Steve on Friday. Agape mechanics will fly to Eleuthera as soon as possible to begin work on the airplane.
