Puerto Rico Disaster Relief

November 2, 2017

We are praising God for a successful relief flight into Aguadilla, Puerto Rico today.

Thanks to your generous donations, the Agape plane and pilots were able to deliver 2,885 lbs of relief supplies including: generators, buckets, food, water filters, and more.  The plane and pilots were met at the airport by several distribution networks on the ground in Puerto Rico (Love the Nations, Plentitud PR, The Vineyard Church, and United Pentecostal Church) which will ensure that these much needed supplies get into the hands of the people who desperately need them.

Please continue to pray with us for Puerto Rico.

SEPTEMBER 20: Hurricane Maria makes landfall on Puerto Rico, devastating the island

From 9/28 – 10/18 Agape made 4 flights and sent 1 sea container, delivering a total of 32,867 lbs of love to benefit the people of Puerto Rico living in the following areas: Aguadilla, Aibonito, Mayaguez, and San Jaun.

Generous donors* provided the finances and resources to deliver critical relief supplies in the form of generators, chainsaws, non-perishable food, solar lights, water purification tablets, Sawyer water filtration systems, diapers, baby food/formula, tarps, personal care items, gas cans, and cleaning supplies.

We are thankful for the trusted “boots on the ground” supply distribution network through the missions of Calvary Chapel, Casa Ulrich, Center Christian Restoration, Love the Nations, and Mennonite Disaster Service!

The Embraer 110 plane is on its way to Aguadilla (northwestern part of Puerto Rico) full of relief supplies. We have been flying into San Juan, and are now responding to a cry for help on the Western side of PR. Please pray with us for a safe flight today. After talking with a pastor who is part of our distribution network on the ground and telling him what was on the flight, he broke out in tears of thankfulness, letting us know that these people have nothing.

THANK YOU for your outpouring of love and support for Puerto Rico.

The Embraer 110 plane landed in Puerto Rico yesterday afternoon, offloaded supplies directly to the distribution network on the ground, and was able to return back to Venice, FL with no issues.  Praise God!  Another flight will offload today, and additional flights are currently being planned.

Here is an update from Love the Nations, a mission partner on the ground that Agape Flights is working directly with:

BIG NEWS!!!!!! We received our flight yesterday from Agape Flights!!!! We have another coming in today!!!  We have a network of 10 churches that will be distribution points for these supplies! These supplies are going STRAIGHT TO THE PEOPLE!!!

OTHER BIG NEWS!!! The generator arrived on the flight!!! So our office has POWER and LIGHT, and INTERNET!!! We will start seeing girls today!!!*

(*Love the Nations started Puerto Rico's first pregnancy resource center named CREE.)

Our current needs:

There has been an amazing outpouring of support - thank you for your generosity!  Many are still asking how they can help.  Right now, this is how you can best help:

  1. PRAY - pray for the people of Puerto Rico, pray for the distribution network on the ground, pray for our pilots and planes, pray for Agape staff and volunteers as they are working tirelessly to bring relief into Puerto Rico while continuing our week to week mission serving 350+ missionary families throughout Haiti, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic.  Pray for the other islands affected by the hurricanes.  (We will also be responding in Cuba)
  2. RESOURCES - We need the financial resources to fly the planes as well as the use of additional cargo planes and pilots to fly them (minimum 2,000 lb payload).  Our distribution network on the ground is also asking for high powered/long distance two-way radios (communication is extremely difficult there).   New chainsaws are another immediate need.
  3. YOUR UNDERSTANDING - We are working extremely hard to do what we can to help Puerto Rico - the needs are great and we know our God is GREATER.  We simply are not able to fill every request including flying out passengers. Agape Flights uses cargo planes and is not equipped to evacuate people from Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico has been devastated by Hurricane Maria, and Agape is answering a cry for help.  Although we typically serve 350+ mission partners throughout Haiti, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba, we see the need to partner with mission partners in Puerto Rico in response to the disaster of Hurricane Maria.

Two relief flights are scheduled for this Thursday (9/28) into Puerto Rico in partnership with Love the Nations.  Plans are in the works to schedule more relief flights in the following weeks.

Please check back for updates, and understand that with a disaster like this plans are fluid.

THANK YOU – Partnership makes it all possible!
